To get calorie calculations for rides strava uses your power output and a coefficient for human efficiency. Power can be estimated if you enter your weight and the weight of your bike or you can use a power meter to get a more accurate measure of your power output.
If i change the total weight of the bike under gear it will adjust my wattage for all my past rides too. Another way to look at this is every 15cm removed from a riders height is like adding 5 10 watts of power in terms of speed increase. So i add a bike it has a field for weight i enter 27 lbs for my touring bike now when i ride around the city unloaded those wattage numbers are more accurate now i take my bike out over the weekend and i add 20 lbs. I assumed it would change when syncing with strava but that doesnt seem to be the case at least not for me. You cant declare the date the weight was taken.
